A business which supplies specialist glass products to commercial customers across the country has been named Business of the Month for January.
The directors of Milnsbridge-based Specialist Glass Products received their award from Deborah Melluish, a partner with Huddersfield law firm Eaton Smith who run the awards in association with The Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce.
Specialist Glass Products was launched in 2003 by three directors – brothers Andrew and Jonathan Taylor, and Steven Mayman. All three had worked for the country’s largest glass manufacturer, Pilkington’s, deciding during 2002 to ‘go it alone’ and set up their own business.
The company supplies bespoke glass products for a variety of applications: one of their specialist processes is curving glass in laminated, annealed, toughened and double-glazed form. The glass is used for architectural glazing, curtain-walling, shopfitting, furniture, partitioning and structural glazing with Specialist Glass Products, as the name suggests, specialising in the unusual.
From a standing start, the company now employs 21 staff and occupies three adjacent business units as the result of increased production. There are plans for the upgrading of machinery during 2007, and the company is on target to achieve a turnover of approaching £3million during the current financial year.
Commenting on this recent success, director Andrew Taylor said: “The fact that we were nominated by our bank for this award was hugely pleasing in itself. To then be telephoned to say that we had won was a big shot in the arm. We are aware that Business of the Month is a really prestigious award, so everyone here at Specialist Glass Products is delighted to have been recognised for their efforts.”
