Glass stairs or glass staircases are becoming more and more in vogue. Specialist Glass produce glass components for glass staircase systems; i.e. glass stair treads and glass balustrade infill panels.
Glass stairtreads are generally manufactured using a combination of 10mm float and 25mm float, laminated together. A non slip surface can be achieved in several ways, the most popular being an all over sandblast and ritec coat finish. Another popular anti-slip preference is for grooves to be cut into the front edge of the tread.

BS 6399: Part 1
Approximately 1mē is usually considered to be a practical maximum area for each panel - due to handling considerations. The glasses should be installed with the thicker glass ply uppermost, and consideration must be given to the surface finish of the glass.
