Laminated Bends
Specialist Glass Products Ltd.
We supply bespoke glass products for an endless variety of applications. One of our specialist processes is curving or bending glass.
Glass curves come in 3 main types, annealed, toughened and laminated, although toughened curves can be laminated together, and any combination of curves can be sealed into double glazed units.
Using 2 matching annealed bends, laminated bends are created by edge taping the 2 bends together and then injecting or pouring a resin laminate between the glasses and allowing it to cure. Once cured the bends are permanently laminated together and form a safety glass. Coloured or patterned glasses can be curved, and coloured laminates can also be used to produce differing effects. Cut outs, notches and holes are also available in curved glass bends.
Typical applications for laminated bends are shop fronts and revolving doors, screens, partitions, canopies and cabinets, as well as components for double glazed units, indeed any area where impact resistance is required.
Roof domes are generally made from laminated curved glass which are bent in 2 planes to produce individual dome segments, which when sealed together into units and then glazed together, produce one dome.
Also available on the thinner glasses is an acoustic laminate for areas where noise reduction is an issue, i.e. partitions and double glazing.
