The SGP Success Story
From its establishment in 2003, to now, Specialist Glass Products Ltd has grown from strength to strength and strove to be one of the best.
Huddersfield Examiner said: “An award-winning Huddersfield firm supplying glass for projects including Wembley Stadium, Heathrow & Manchester Airport has invested £850,000 in new machinery to fuel further expansion…whatever next?”
Still based in Milnsbridge in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire, SGP has seen continuous growth over the years and is able to offer new job opportunities as well as the latest products and services for their loyal customers. Specialist Glass Products has also invested heavily in machinery, enabling them to manufacture toughened glass – complementing existing equipment to bend, curve and laminate glass.
The company’s progress and success was celebrated at the 2008 Huddersfield Examiner Business Awards, when it won the category for small and medium-sized enterprise of the year.
Director Jonathan Taylor said, in 2008: “Winning the award has come as a shock as we were up against such strong competition. We regard it as a reward for all the effort our staff have put in.”
They were also nominated for Business of the Year in last year’s Examiner Business Awards.
In 2013 (?) Specialist Glass Products was achieving sales of £3.5m, making items such as glass staircases, shopfronts and balconies for venues such as hotels, conference centres, national retail chains partitioning and much more.
The firm has expanded from its original 3,000sq ft premises to occupy about 30,000sq ft of space. Operating from this site, with an expansion on the horizon to develop further to house more machinery and jobs, the company can continue to work on prestigious projects such as; The Shard, Somerset house, The Gherkin, King’s Cross Station, Cambridge University and many more.
Andrew Taylor, director of Specialist Glass Products, said in 2013: “The current economic climate is having a major impact on many firms that supply the construction industry. “Despite this, we’re focusing on ensuring we have the capacity to offer quick turnaround times, even on major projects.
In 2014, Mr Taylor said: “The company has grown in strength and profitability year on year, particularly in extremely demanding and difficult market conditions due to the recession through the development of existing staff, by adding experienced professional persons into key positions and through investment in specialist equipment and machinery.”
He added: “In a demanding market place, we believe that we provide the best quality products available in a time to meet our customers’ demands.”
Specialist Glass Products is a family run business with a fast moving, ever changing plan to succeed in the glass industry. The company is known for its bespoke pieces as well as its specialist processes of curving glass in laminated, toughened and double-glazed form. The glass is used for architectural glazing, shop fitting, furniture, partitioning and structural glazing. It is also supplied for shower screens, stairways and much more – the design and usage is now endless.
