Toughened glass suppliers
Your trusted glass supplier, Specialist Glass Products, has over 20 years of experience manufacturing toughened glass solutions for our clients.
Overview
We offer toughened glass in impressive sizes of up to 6000mm x 3210mm for flat glass and 3200mm x 5100mm for curved glass.
Also known as tempered glass, toughened glass is a specialised type of safety glass that undergoes controlled thermal or chemical treatments. Following this process, the strength and durability of the glass are vastly improved when compared to standard glass.
Heating our toughened glass to around 620 degrees Celsius (1,148 degrees Fahrenheit) and rapidly cooling it with forced or cold-air jets creates a balance of surface compression and edge tension within the glass.
Why Choose SGP For Toughened Glass?
You can rely on us and our product line if you’re looking for quality and a premium service. Using purpose-built machinery, our team of specialists in our Yorkshire factory manufactures our products, offering precision and durability across our full range. You can expect a flawless finish from each piece within our product line, with toughened glass complementing both residential and commercial spaces.
Certified Safety and Quality
Our toughened glass is manufactured to EN 12150 standards. You can therefore be sure that every panel meets rigorous safety requirements. In the event of breakage, the glass shatters into small granular chunks, reducing the risk of injury compared to standard annealed glass.
Advanced Manufacturing Capability
We operate one of the UK’s most advanced processing facilities. Our use of CNC machinery and purpose-built furnaces ensures precision, durability, and consistent quality across every order.
Bespoke Solutions Backed by Expertise
With over 20 years’ experience, we offer made-to-measure toughened glass tailored to any project, whether residential, commercial, or specialist. Our Yorkshire-based team offers technical advice and expertise, supporting you from enquiry to installation.
Types of Toughened Glass
Explore the different types of toughened glass you can choose from for your project.
Flat Toughened Glass
Manufactured at our custom-built Yorkshire factory to EN 12150 standards, our flat toughened glass offers durability, safety, and clarity. Available in a wide range of sizes, each panel is precision-made using advanced CNC processing for a flawless finish.
Curved Toughened Glass
We are one of the few UK manufacturers able to produce curved toughened glass up to 3200mm x 5100mm. Offering strength and safety with a striking design, it is ideal for staircases, balustrades, shopfronts, and contemporary façades.
Oversized Toughened Glass
Using modern machinery, we can toughen panels up to 6000mm x 3210mm. These large glass solutions are perfect for ambitious architectural projects, offering uninterrupted spans of glazing while still delivering strength and safety.
Heating and Tempering
Glass is heated to about 620 °C and then cooled rapidly using forced air or jets of cold air. This process creates stress in the glass by compressing the surfaces and tensioning the edges, which makes it much stronger than standard annealed glass.
Size, Shape, and Finishing
Before the tempering process, any required cutting, drilling or shaping is completed. Once toughened, the glass cannot be altered. Curved toughened glass is made by bending glass up to 3200 × 5100 mm.
Quality, Safety, and Applications
After tempering, the glass is inspected for clarity, strength and finish. In the event of breakage, the glass shatters into small, blunt fragments rather than sharp shards. Toughened glass is used in windows, doors, partitions, balustrades, shower enclosures, and other applications requiring high safety.

Your Toughened Glass Questions, Answered
What is toughened glass?
Toughened glass is safety glass that has been heated and cooled in a controlled way to increase its strength. It is stronger than standard glass and breaks into small, blunt pieces rather than sharp shards.
Is toughened laminated glass stronger than standard toughened glass?
While standard toughened glass is designed to be four to five times stronger than regular float glass, toughened laminated glass adds an extra layer of security. It combines two or more sheets of toughened glass with an interlayer, meaning even if the glass is damaged, the interlayer holds it together. This reduces the risk of injury, increases resistance to impact, and makes it much harder to penetrate, which is ideal for applications where safety and security are critical.
How strong is toughened glass?
Toughened glass is several times stronger than standard glass of the same thickness, and can withstand stronger impact and greater temperature changes.
Can you drill holes in toughened glass?
Holes cannot be added after toughening. They must be planned at the start and machined before the toughening process. SGP can include any required holes or cutouts during production.
How is toughened and laminated glass used?
Common applications for toughened, laminated glass include windows, balustrades, skylights, facades, and areas where impact resistance and structural integrity are crucial. Glass flooring also looks visually appealing and stands the test of time when made from toughened and laminated glass. If you’re ready to choose glass that doesn’t just look great but lasts, whatever your oversized glazing specification, we have the solution. Explore the different glass applications here.
How is glass toughened?
The glass is heated in a furnace and then cooled quickly with air. This process strengthens the glass. SGP uses specialist equipment to produce toughened units with a consistent finish.
Can you drill toughened glass?
No. Toughened glass cannot be drilled once it is finished. Holes must be added before the glass goes into the furnace. SGP can produce glass with the holes already included.
