When glass design experts Lasvit began work on the refurbishment of the Top of the Rock observation deck at New York’s Rockefeller Center, they needed curved glass of the highest quality. They came to Specialist Glass Products due to our reputation for precision and reliable service.
Perched more than 260 metres above Manhattan, the Top of the Rock gives visitors spectacular views of the city. The spot provides unobstructed views of the skyline and serves as the ultimate observation deck for New York. Lasvit required curved, toughened, low-iron glass for the iconic observation deck that would stay crystal clear and secure while also standing up to the harsh rooftop weather all year round.
What did we supply?
SGP produced eight bespoke panels of 17.5 mm Pilkington Optiwhite Low-Iron Toughened Curved Glass, each incorporating a Trosifol Sentry interlayer for added strength. Every panel was curved and toughened to tight tolerances to deliver both transparency and structural safety, which are essential for a public viewing platform.
The outcome
The new glass panels now form part of the refreshed viewing podium at Rockefeller Center. They frame the skyline perfectly and let visitors enjoy uninterrupted panoramic views of New York. For SGP, it’s a proud example of British engineering showcased on one of the world’s most famous landmarks.
”“Supplying glass for such an iconic landmark as Top of the Rock was a real honour for us. Projects like this show what can be achieved when design, precision, and teamwork come together. Seeing our glass installed high above Manhattan is something everyone at SGP is proud of.”
