SGP supplied bespoke double-glazed units as part of the redevelopment of the Wakefield landmark building, Flockton Water Tower. Supporting Bespoke Glass Services in Huddersfield, the project aimed to create a comfortable, energy-efficient living environment while preserving the tower’s distinctive character.
Built in the 1960s, Flockton Water Tower was used by Yorkshire Water until it was decommissioned and put up for sale by auction. This functional building has since been reimagined as an eye-catching dwelling, offering 360-degree breathtaking views of the countryside. The unique accommodation is set over three floors and is suitable for up to eight guests, providing a perfect break for guests wishing to enjoy a quiet stay.
The client required solar control glass to regulate the internal environment of the building. SGP was selected thanks to its long-standing partnership with Bespoke Glass Services and the team’s proven ability to deliver high-quality glazing solutions on complex projects. SGP was tasked with supplying bespoke double-glazed units incorporating solar control glass to improve thermal efficiency as well as appearance, securing it as a luxury venue. It was important for the supplied product to maximise comfort and function as a practical solution year-round.

What Did We Supply?
A total of 45 bespoke double-glazing units were supplied, consisting of 6mm solar control glass and 10.8mm clear laminated glass. The manufacturing of double-glazed units (DGU) offers several benefits compared to traditional single-pane windows, significantly reducing heat transfer due to the insulating layer between them. Double-glazed units also reduce carbon emissions associated with heating and cooling, additionally offering improved sound insulation and security. The units provided were essential in ensuring a pleasant indoor climate for guests while supporting the venue’s energy efficiency goals.
Challenges and Solutions
SGP produced all units within 15 working days, ensuring the project remained on schedule, and installation took place over just a single day. Each unit weighed 140kg and was lifted into place by hand to achieve the best possible finish. This level of precision and care ensured that the glazing complemented the tower’s design while meeting the client’s strict technical requirements. SGP has decades of experience in delivering complex glazing projects, ensuring the units were manufactured to exact specifications and supplied on schedule for a smooth installation.
The Outcome
The new bespoke double-glazing has enhanced the tower’s energy performance while allowing uninterrupted 360-degree views of the surrounding Yorkshire countryside. The stunning venue now offers enhanced practicality and environmental performance, as well as a striking design that maximises natural light.
Andrew Taylor, Managing Director at SGP, added:
”“Being part of this exceptional project in Flockton has been a real privilege for our team. We supplied high-performance double-glazed units that not only enhance the property’s energy efficiency but also frame the stunning 360-degree views of the Yorkshire countryside. It’s always rewarding to see our products play a role in bringing a client’s vision to life, especially on such a striking project.”
